Google Wallet Starts Rolling Out Worldwide
Industry News
As the internet giant attempts to reinvent its mobile payment system, the new Google Wallet has begun to surface on phones in dozens of regions.
The Wallet, which will replace the Google Pay app, will allow users to manage their payment cards, gift cards, reward cards, as well as event tickets, ID, and other.
It is being implemented in 39 countries. In most cases, it will replace Google Pay. However, both will be accessible in the United States and Singapore.
Google Wallet initially emerged more than a decade ago, but it was renamed Android Pay in 2015, then Google Pay again in 2018, before returning to its roots this year.
Google has had mixed results in the payments and banking sectors. After canceling its intended current account product, Plex, earlier this year, it engaged PayPal executive Arnold Goldberg to assist in resetting its plans.
