Read a performance fee calculation

How the fee detail page shows the numbers behind a performance fee charge.

Pour les admins

When you open a performance fee on the Fees tab, the detail page shows why the platform charged this amount: the settings in force at the time, the profit it started from, and each step down to the final fee. The numbers are a saved snapshot of the charge. They do not change if the master’s settings or the account’s trading results change later.

Transaction details

The upper block, Transaction details, is shown for every fee type and keeps everything about the transaction in one card:

  • Overview — the fee transaction ID, status, withdrawal deal and time, fee type, and the fee settings the master had (for example 10%, Monthly). A Rate row appears only when the fee was converted to another currency.
  • Source and Master — the investor’s account, client and contact details, and the master account that earned the fee. Logins and client IDs link to their pages.
  • Recipients — where the fee went. The primary recipient shows its destination, deposit deal and time, and the amounts. Each partner who received a share gets its own block with its Partner Deposit ID and percentage.

The fee transaction ID of the primary recipient is not repeated in its block, because it is already in Overview.

Performance fee calculation

For performance fees only, the Performance fee calculation card follows. Other fee types, such as trade, profit, management, subscription or joining, show Transaction details without a calculation card. The card reads like a receipt. The Formula line at the top states the rule; every row beneath is one step, ending with the amount of the fee transaction.

The calculation, step by step.

Hover a row name with a dotted underline to see a short explanation of it. A grey line under a row shows how its value was obtained, for example 0.90 − 0.43. Red values are deductions.

The rows

RowWhat it shows
Calculation FormulaThe setting that decides what counts as profit: Based on realised PnL, Based on sum of floating and realised PnL, or Based on realised PnL with floating loss. It is the value in force when the fee was charged.
Realised PnLThe result of closed positions copied from this master at the time of the charge.
Floating profit / Floating lossThe result of open positions. It appears only when the chosen formula takes it into account: always for the sum formula, and only as a Floating loss (a deduction) for the formula with floating loss.
Net profit (P&L)The profit the calculation starts from, with the sum that produced it underneath.
Trade fee accountingWhether trade fees already paid are taken into account: Consider Trade fee as loss or Exclude Trade fee from calculation.
Paid Trade FeeShown only when trade fees are considered. The trade fees already paid at that moment, deducted from the profit so the investor is not charged twice on the same money.
Previous High Water MarkThe profit level reached at the previous performance fee charge. The fee applies only to the profit above it.
Net profit incrementThe profit above the High Water Mark. If there is no increment, there is no fee.
Fee %The performance fee rate from the master’s fee plan at the time of the charge.
Performance feeThe fee in the investor account’s currency: the increment multiplied by the fee rate.
Currency conversionShown only when the recipient’s currency differs. The fee multiplied by the saved exchange rate.
Fee transaction amountThe amount of this fee transaction, as credited.

To answer “why was this fee so small (or zero)?”, look at Previous High Water Mark and Net profit increment. A fee is charged only when profit has grown past the previous high.

If a fee has no saved calculation, the calculation card is not shown and only Transaction details is available. For the definition of the fee itself, see Performance fee.
